Abstract : It is a primary importance that design of crown restorations should be rigid enough to be against functional loadings in the mouth. However, there have been frequently anticipated a poor prognosis due to the fracture in a part of restorations. Therefore, pertinent informations are currently needed to design crown restorations properly. Authors admitted the advantage for an application of laser holography into this type of studies. Therefore, a preliminary experiment was carried out as follows; A brass die was constructed by duplicate of an epoxy right central incisor as the abutment for this experiment. A stressing device was prepared and calibrated to allow precise application of the load under the fixation of the each test piece. Four different anterior crowns were compared with others. Namely 1) Aluminous porcelain jacket crown, 2) Thermo-setting resin jacket crown, 3) Porcelain fused to metal crown (full coverage), 4) Porcelain fused to metal crown (partial coverage). One to six Kg vertical loading were applied and each hologram was taken by a Nikomat camera (FT-3 type : 105 Micro-Nikkor). Then, counter drawings from the hologram were traced on the tracing papers which were shown in figs. 7 to 12. From these results, characteristic features of the various restorations were proved and more detailed informations on successive studies are to be appeared in the future issues.
