Abstract : Abstract : It has been investigated that β-endorphin would be liberated from pituitary gland by endotoxin and reacted complexly on a mesenteric vascular beds. The hemodynamic responses of β-edorphin to gingival vascular beds during endotoxin shock were observed. 1) Initial response induced by endotoxin was an increase of gingival flow for 60 minutes and delaied decrease followed it. The initial increase was not affected by naloxone but delaied decrease was caused to increase. 2) In that case, gingival venule in diameter had a tendency to extend during initial phase and to reduce during delaied phase, but both changes were not significantly different from normal level. However, the diameter of venule was evidently reduced by naloxone. 3) Under controlled ventilation, the diameter of venule was reduced by endotoxin and this reduction was accelated by naloxone. These results suggest that gingival flow is indirectly influenced by systemic changes as seen in mesetery during endotoxin shock, but low sensitivity of gingival venule to β-endorphin is a quite different response compared with that of mesenteric venule. These differences might be a difference in metabolic change between them.
