Abstract : Abstract : Dealing with occlusal promotion of children in orthodontic practice, it might be necessary to secure the phase of the development of the permanent teeth. The developmental stage of the permanent tooth and its relation to physical growth were examined in order to recognize the patterns of somatic growth and its effect on tooth development. Serial cephalometric roentogenograms, data from progressive changes of height and weight and records of menarcheal age samples consisted of fourty females were analyzed in this experiment. The analytic results were as follows : 1. Developmental velocity curves of each tooth had characteristic patterns respectively. 2. All of the velocity curves exhibited a single peak which indicated maximum increment. 3. Age of peak velocity was biologically effective for the assessment of the development of the permanent teeth. 4. The stage of the tooth development and the menarcheal age were closely related ; especially the mineralization stage of the lower second premolar was fairly close to the age of the appearance of menarche. 5. Statistically significant correlations were indicated between height and the development of the permanent teeth. Especially high correlations were shown in buccal segments. From these results, it could be indicated that the phase of the development of the permanent teeth had an individual difference though a common pattern existed. Furthermore, this phase had close relation to the somatic growth and development.
