Abstract : Abstract : It is commonly recognized that primary teeth are less characteristic of retrogression than permanent teeth. Therefore, malformed teeth in respect of thier form and number in the primary dentition are found less frequently than in the permanent dentition. But in the consulting room of clinical pedodontics it is not very unusual to find out the supernumerary teeth in the primary dentition. However, it cannot easily be figured out whether the supernumerary teeth originated in the primary dentition or in the permanent dentition. The authers met very rare case of supernumerary teeth in the upper left dentition of 3 year and 9 month male. The two kinds of teeth here could not meet the general conditions of the deciduous canine. So we could not find out which tooth was the supernumerary canine. We investigated this case in detail and obtaind the following result concerning the cause and the origin of the duplicated canine. 1. We could not discriminate the supernumerary tooth from the normal canines. 2. Concerning the genetic process of this case, we have inferred that it is not the reversion but some enviromental factor in the early embryonal period that may have caused the present case.
