Abstract : Abstract : Local recognition of the importance of treatment or prevention of diseases has been gradually increasing, since the Chair of Pedodontic was created at our school. But, on the other hand, the present status of neglect in the area of oral control still remains. A factual survey of the patients who visited our department during 2.5 years from July, 1979 to December, 1981 was made, and we gained the results as follows : (1) On the age distribution of outpatients, those from 3 to 5 years old occupied 47% of the total. (2) The number of patients averaged 75 patients a month or 3.1 patients a day, which showed a decreasing trend of late. (3) Regarding anamnesis, allergic disorders and systemic inframmation, particularly atopic dermatitis and asthma were often found. As to the chief complaints, 71% was something concerning dental caries. (4) Intraoral examination revealed that the average number of dental caries of each was less than that of the report by the Ministry of Public Welfare for a period of primary dentition, but 3.4 teeth were recognized on an average at the preocclusal stage of deciduous teeth (Dental age IC). This was more than those of the report. (5) Of all the cases, 31% were anomalies of number and malformation. In particular, supernumerary teeth, fused teeth, traumatic teeth and malocclusion were found in order of frequency. (6) 44.3% of the parents of all patients attended "Mother Class", of which the age distribution corresponded to that of the outpatients.
