Abstract　： 「はじめに」神奈川歯科大学付属病院矯正科が昭和39年4月に開設されて以来20年近い年月が経過した. この間に矯正治療を希望して来院した患者は年々増加し, 当科に登録された患者は5,000人に達しようとしている. この間の一般社会情勢としては, 東京オリンピック, 高度経済成長, オイルショック, ドルショックなどがあり, 激動の世代であった. 歯科界においては, 昭和53年10月に「矯正歯科」および「小児歯科」の標榜が認められ, 昭和57年4月には, 唇顎口蓋裂患者の歯科矯正治療に保険制度の導入があり, これに伴って歯科矯正に対する社会的意識も大きく変化してきた. さらに, 3歳児検診や母親教室の開催などの努力によって口腔衛生思想が普及し, 欧米に追随した乳歯齲蝕が減少する一方, 矯正治療に対する関心が高まり, 来院, 相談の頻度は年々増加する傾向を示している. そのような世情を反映して, 患者のニーズに答えるべき治療機関側としても大学病院の矯正科の拡充ばかりでなく, 歯科矯正専門医も多数輩出した.

Abstract　： This research was performed on the purpose of knowing the actual situation of patients who had visited the orthodontic clinic of Kanagawa Dental College in the last ten years (April 1973 to March l982). Materials were analyzed for constitution of the patients on several reservations. The results were as follows; 1. Total number of patients who had visited the clinic was 6257 and only 2892 patients, 65.8% female and 34.2% male, who had recieved active actuai orthodontic treatment. 2. The 2892 patients were composed of 1904 females (65.8%) and 988 males (34.2 %). 3. The distribution of the number of patients per month who visited our clinic for the first time that the wellsuited months with patients were in August, July, March, June and April in sequence. These terms corresponded to the vacation of school. 4. Of whole patients, elementary school children from 7 to 12 years old formed 71.1%. Showing with Hellman,s dental age, IIIA(25.4%) and IIIB(35.6%) formed high percentage. 5. Regional distribution of the patients showed that the greater part of the patients visited from Yokosuka(41.1%) and Yokohama(29.7%), and only 3.3% of them out of Kanagawa prefecture. 6. Categorizing with the symptoms, malocclusion of the patients consisted mainly of reversed occlusion, crowding and upper protrusion.
