Abstract　： 「まえがき」 いわゆる第四大臼歯は比較的稀に見られる. Bolkによれば3,500例中に数例, 穂坂によれば22,072例中2例であるが, その文献は多い. 藤田は第四大臼歯を最初先祖返りとみなしたが, それは第三大臼歯の臼旁歯であろうと訂正している. しかし, それが臼旁歯であるという組織学的根拠を示していない. 第三大臼歯の臼旁歯, 臼後歯は相対的な位置の主観的判定による名称であって, 発生学的には両者は同じ成立機転によるものと思われる. この論文の目的は第三, 第四大臼歯の両者のハンター・シュレーゲル条のパターンを比較することによって, それが第三大臼歯の重複の片割れであるという根拠を示すことにある. また, 重複歯が癒合する可能性を討論する. 「材料と方法」 症例2から抜去した[8][9]を10%中性フオルマリン液に固定後, ポリエステルレジン包埋, 横断研磨によって100μm毎のレプリカを作った. レプリカのためには研磨面を10%乳酸に3分間腐食し, 20分間水道水で水洗後, 乾燥したものを用いた.

Abstract　： Hunter-Schreger bands from serial ground sections with a replica method were compared between the 3rd and 4th molar teeth from a male patient. The spiral pattern of Hunter-Shreger bands was clockwise in one of these teeth, while it was counterclockwise in the other. From this finding it is very likely that these teeth are duplicates derived from the 3rd molar anlage. Discussion was made to the previeus workers'data not only on the malformations in the 3rd molar region, but also on the incidence of the 4th and 5th molars. It is possible that a majority of the so-called fused molars are due not to the connation of the different molar anlagen, but to the incomplete division of a single molar anlage, and that some of them are due only to the secondary fusion of the duplicat
