Abstract : | Although plaster is widely used in dental field, its setting process and hydration have not been completely elucidated. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of W/P ratio on the dihydrate crystallization of dental plaster by use of X-ray diffraction method. To clarify the growth of dihydrate crystal, three different W/P ratios (0.3, 0.5 and 1.0) were examined. The following results were obtained. 1) Five minutes after start of mixing, the amounts of separated dihydrate at 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 W/P ratios were 16.2, 9.4 and 6.1%, respectively. 2) On the contrary, 15 minutes after start of mixing, the quantity of dihydrate crystal growth showed remarkable increase in proportion to the W/P ratio. 3) While the hemihydrate remained even 59 minutes after start of mixing in every samples from each W/P ratio and showed decrease with W/P increases. |
