Abstract : [Abstract]: There are still relatively few studies which objectively examine the relationship between roots of the teeth and occlusal force. As a means of clarifying this relationship, the author constructed an experimental model by attaching silicon artificial periodontium to l 3-7 / l 3-7 natural formed artifical teeth. Impact was then applied to the indicated points on the occlusal surface as random vibration. The data from an acceleration pick-up attached in succession to each apex was measured for attenuation in terms of a linear value. For analysis of data, use was made of a digital frequency analyzer. 1. For vibration which coincided with the tooth axis, the force in the direction of the long axis showed a difference in attenuation which was approximately 10 dB less in comparison with force in the buccal-lingual and mesio-distal directions. 2. For a multi-rooted tooth in which the vibration coincided with the tooth axis, the tendency of distribution for the force among the roots was about even. 3. When the direction of vibration was altered in each direction, the force increased for those directions which coincided with the direction of vibration. There were also cases at this time where a rotational movement was observed with the tooth root as the center. 4. Regardless of whether vibration was applied to the functional cusp or to the balanced cusp, as for the force transfered to the roots of the tooth, there was a difference of less than 3 dB for the mean values of the three directions of vibration.
