Abstract : [Abstract] Japanese monkey (Macaca Fuscata) has a characteristic that pulp cavity reduction in the volume of the pulp cavity begins at root incompletion stage. The purpose of this study was to examine changes of pulpal vascular architecture, accompanied with its pulp reduction using the corrosive resin casts method, scanning electon microscopy, roentgenoscopy and histological observations. Lower canines and molars from 20 monkeys were used for this study. X-ray images showed that coronal pulp in the completely formed and incomplete root apex stage was very slender from a height of alveolar bone margin toward pulp horn. A typical three layered arrangement (terminal capillay network: TCN, capillary network: CN, and venular network: VN) in the superficial layer of lingual radicular pulp was observed. The odontblastic cell layer was also thick, indicating an active formation of dentin on the other hand, the three layers, especially TCN of labial radicular pulp, was reconstructed into a more coarsely arranged meshwork pattern. In the molar region, the coronal pulp and radicular pulp cavity of the mesial root was reduced in volume before eruption, and the three layers could not be observed except in the radicular pulp of distal root. Completion of mesial root is earlier than that of distal root and the three layers of radicular pulp could be not observed at root apex formation stage. From histological observations, the formation of collagen fibers, followed by calcification in the pulp tissue occurred in concert with primary dentin formation by odontoblasts during root incompletion stage.
