Abstract : [Abstract] An examination was carried out concerning medical staff, people with high blood serum GPT and people who test positive for hepatitis B virus (HBV), all of whom are high risk subjects for type non-A non-B hepatitis (HCV). The stored blood serum (1990) of a total of 149 test subjects, including 143 medical staff of the university and 6 other related subjects, became the target of tests using Anti-Hepatitis C Virus, Antibody (HCV Antibody) Ortho HCV Antibody ELISA Test System from the Chiron Company in the United States. [Results] Regarding the medical staff, those doctors who tested positive for HCV antibodies were 2 subjects out of a total of 93 (2.15%). Among nurses, 1 person out of 16 tested positive (6.25%). As for other related subjects, among those with high GPT values, 1 person out of 5 (20.0%) tested positive. Those people who tested positive for HCV antibodies had no history of transfusions and had not tested positive for HBV. Thus, it is believed that their positive testing for HCV antibodies was community acquired.
