Abstract : [Abstract] In prosthodontic dentistry practice, it is very important that the prosthesis which was introduced into the human mouth has a good functional affinity with living body tissues, particularly with periodontal tissues. Disruption in the affinity could cause very serious troubles. With this in mind, we conducted research using the modal analysis method and one-octave-band (ISO Recommendation R226) analysis method to find if the materials used in the popularly practiced full coverage crown treatment could have any harmful effects on the teeth and periodontal tissues. Examinations involving the use of a number of kinds of materials produced the following interesting findings. 1. A modal analysis located the characteristic vibration frequency of the samples used in the experiments existing in the 500Hz range. The peak frequency had a tendency to show a higher value when a vertical vibration was given to the sample than when a lateral vibration was applied. 2. A dynamic observation found that the frequency variation attributed to the change of the kinds of materials was comparatively small; however, larger frequency shifts were observed when the vibration direction was changed or teeth-prosthesis contact condition was altered. 3. In terms of the degree of the displacement and the damping quantities, paradium alloys as crown material were found to have the largest effect on the affinity with human body. 4. Judging from the various parameters involved, it is believed that a horizontal force exerts influence more effectively than a vertical force in teeth-prosthesis contact relation.
