Abstract : Abstract: During the process of constructing partial dentures, one of the important things to understand during the stage of designing to achieve a good balance between the abutment teeth and the denture suppoting mucosa is the physical characteristics of the oral soft tissue such as the denture supporting mucosa. There have been many experiments using various methods to do this, but due to the fact that this involves large and complex instruments or require much time for measurement, in the area of prosthetics, understanding the characteristics of the oral soft tissue is usually done based on actual clinical experiences such as inspection and palpation. Our laboratory has been measuring tooth mobility and measuring the viscosity of dental-use rubber impression materials by using the impact hammer method, which is the simplest of all the methods of measurement of vibration for oral cavity use. This time, in order to test the feasibility of viscoelasticity measurement of oral soft tissue using the above method in the future, we have measured the viscoelasticity of the human facial skin, which has similar epithelium characteristicr and supporting tissue structure, and is also relatively easy to measure. As a result of this measurement method under various conditions of the muscle tonus and change in the vibrational force, we have observed the following; (1) Due to the influence of the horizontol viscoelasticity caused by the tention of the facial skin, the viscoelasticity increased when there was increase in the vibrational force. (2) The elasticity showed an increase due to the muscle tonus, but the viscosity showed no influence from it. (3) Impact hammer method is found to be feasible in measureing the viscoelasticity of oral soft tissue.
