Abstract : Abstract : Full cast crowns have been constructing by "Lost Wax" technique for many years in prosthodontics. However, recent development in dental technology is providing a new challenge using CAD / CAM, which creates an alternative technique for fabrication of coronal restorations. Consqently, the various approaches have conducted to rationalize CAD / CAM prosthesis. The purpose of this study is to develop coronal construction system by means of CAD / CAM application, which make possible for automated fabrication of a metal crown with full coverage type, and pure titanium(Toho Titanium Co.Tokyo)was used as an experimental test piece. An original apparatus was developed as 3-D Measurement-Milling Apparatus(Type A-1)at our Department, and in this study, milling mechanism(CAM)was separately incorporated into CAMM-3(Model PNC-2500, Roland D.G.Co.Hamamatsu)so that a total of coronal contruction system was successfully completed and this was proved by fabrication of a metal crown for lower left first molar with pure titanium. From this experiment, the following results were obtained. 1. A total of coronal construction system made possible for rationalization by adding a new soft-ware program for automated fabrication of a molar crown. 2. Constructional procedures were performed by using pure titanium as an experimental test piece in area of inner surface at first, and outer surface of a crown secondly by numeically controlled machine tools. 3. Computer aided construction replaced with hand work technique became possible more accurate and stability for high productivity in fabrication of coronal restorations. 4. The system is handled by a practical personal computer as a down-sizing compact and it became capable of common usage for a routine laboratory work.
