Abstract : Abstract : A tooth fragment found inside an imported corned beef can was examined as an opinion case, and the following results were obtained. 1) Histological observation of the fragment showed the existence of enamel rods, Schreger's lines and dentinal tubules in the fragment. Vascular tissue was also found in the dentine. 2) Qualitative analysis by electron probe X-ray microanalyser detected both P and Ca without any other elements. 3) Schreger's lines in the fragment presented the characteristics of those typical in a herbivore. 4) Morphological character of the enamel rods in the fragment observed under scanning electron microscope was identical to that of bovine tooth. From these results, we concluded that the tooth fragment was derived from a bovine tooth.
