Abstract : As the surface textures of castings affect on the retention force of polycarboxylate cement, the oxides, surface roughness and wettability of the various heat-treated alloys (gold alloy : 20-K Au, Plladium alloy : Ag-Pd-Au & silver alloy : Ag-In-Zn-Sn alloy) and pure metals (Au, Cu, Ag & Sn) were determined, and tensile bond strengths of the polycar-boxylate cement to the metal surfaces were also measured. Results obtained were as follows ; 1) The separation of copper oxide was detected on both oxidized surfaces of gold alloy and palladium alloy, while the tin oxide was found on the oxidized silver alloy. 2) Although no detectable textural changes were observed on the surfaces of both pure gold and tin, copper oxide was separated from pure copper at 300℃ and it peeled off as the temperature increased. On pure silver, the surface change occurred at 300℃. 3) The contact angles of both distilled water and cement liquid to the various surfaces gradually increased up to 200℃. By heating beyond 300℃, the contact angles immediately decreased. 4) Little increases of the surface roughness were found on the all pure metals, while the increasing tendencies were detected at 500℃ heating of all alloys. 5) In spite of the lower adhesive strength to gold alloy was shown at relatively lower heat- ing temperature, it began to increase above 200℃, palladium alloy showed the similar tendency at 500℃.
