Abstract : As the results of the previous paper, polycarboxylate cement showed considerably high adhesive strength to oxidized surface of gold alloy heated at 300℃. In this study, therefore, retentive force of both zinc phosphate cement (ZPC) and polycarboxylate cement (PCC) were determined by means of punching shear test using cylindrical cast gold specimens cemented to the stainless steel mold with various tapers at side walls. Results obtained were as follows ; 1) Although the retentive force of PCC was superior to that of ZPC, both cements showed the same decreasing tendencies of retentive force as the tapered angle increased, when the pickled castings were cemented. 2) In the application of the oxidized castings, ZPC showed approximately the same tendency as those mentioned above, however, the higher retentive force was exhibited in PCC compare with that in ZPC. 3) No significant differences of film thicknesses were found between the each experimental groups. 4) In pickled castings cemented with PCC and ZPC, cohesive fractures within the cement layers were observed when tapered angles were relatively small, and as the tapered angles increased the adhesive fractures at the cement-casting interface became dominant. On the other hand, even in the case of larger tapered angle, cohesive fracture mode could often be observed when the oxidized casting was cemented with PCC.
