Abstract : [Abstract]: For an aging society, it is required that we become familiar with new fields of technique and complexity. I chose an extent of high molecular material, or metal material, as a dental material. My concern is quality of treatment for prosthodontics. Therefore, when asked about mechanical intensity, and high accuracy, the rate of easily treated metals, including an alloy for casting, have been reported to be useful for dental practice. Titanium is one of the metals recently highlighted as an excellent bioadaptive and prosthdontic material in the field of dentistry. Techniques for processing titanium have advanced remarkably in recent years. Various studies have been carried out concerning this metal. Titanium is now used for a number of different purposes. Although various metals can be used for coating, titanium was noted to have excellent features as a bioadaptive material. It was undertaken with the possibility in mind of coating dental metal materials with thin layers of titanium or titanium nitride, using a dental sputtering system. Sputter deposition is a technique in which particles of material are sputtered onto a base substance at high energy level. One material fuses tightly to the other material and can create a new surface on several different types of materials. This technique can be performed easily at relatively low temperatures, even at a room temperature. In this experiment, in order to improve a surface of dental metal meterial (12%Au-Ag-Pd alloy), it was coated with Ti, TiN which involves the injection of a reactive gas, and Ti+TiN, using a dental sputtering system (Shimadzu, HSD-542) at a direct current magnetron discharge output of 200, 300, 400 and 500W. The discharge time was calculated theoretically, to make a thick vapordeposited layer total at 6000 A. The resulting dental metal material with titanium coating was examined for surface roughness, hardness and a scratch test. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. To use sputter deposition, it was valuable to note that surface properties of dental metal material were improved. 2. The roughness of the test piece (12%Au-Ag-Pd alloy) was improved and smoother and hardness was increased after coating, caused by sputter deposition. 3. The power of adherence between the test piece and titanium was greatly influenced by the discharge output, it had a value of 20.61 gf when the discharge of Ti+TiN coating was 500-500W. 4. It was suggested that the color of titanium could be controled by coating and keep it's stability as time passed, and speaking of TiN coating, was able to be reappeared the color of gold.
