Abstract : Cytoarchitecture of neuronal cell bodies and glial cells in the trigeminal motor nucleus (Vm) of the rat was studied in postnatal one to five weeks. The numbers of neuronal cell bodies showed no difference during thier postnatal weeks. bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) immunoreactive cells of the Vm, which showed proliferating neuronal cells and/or glial cells, were found in the first to third weeks. On the other hand, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) immunoreactive cells, which was included in soma of astroglia cells were encountered in the Vm in four and five postnatal weeks. These data suggest that neuron-glial circuit in the rat Vm dramatically changes in the period of weanling in which jaw movement mode change from sucking to masticatory movement.
